Player profiles (Provided by Rich "Potter" Holme)

RYAN PEARSON (GK)
Garnett’s long time goal keeping shortage has hopefully been dealt with following the signing of this Gateshead born fresher. Thanks to frantic leaflet dropping around Ricky Road, Peason became aware of the mighty Green and Black and was snapped up after a successful trial. If he fulfils his early potential there is a good chance the can rise through the ranks in the same way as predecessors such as Fraser and current first team number one Kev Harty.

MIKE DEEBLE (LB/LM)
Deebs is the longest serving A team player in the squad and he was part of the famous treble winning side of four years ago. He brings versatility, experience and above all a real element of niceness to the team. A thoroughly decent chap and damn good player to boot. (Robbo - Very fond of the pulling down shorts tactic!)

DAVE PEAT (RB)
New signing Peat has slotted in at right back very comfortably. A no nonsense defender he also adds another option coming forward and overlaps well. On his debut he took the man of the match award (Robbo - second game infact!). With good strength and pace he completes a mean looking back line. Rumours that he was formerly in Hanson have been denied.

TOM RIGBY (Utility)
The quite man Rigby has been compared to Ryan Giggs but his playing style resembles that of another famous Welshman, Clayton Blackmore. Tom is a former B team player of the year, mainly because he had to do the work of two men, whilst covering for Dan Ford. He has brought this work ethic with him to the A’s. The only negative point being his inability to distinguish between team mates’ christian and surnames.

ALEX VAN DER ZEE (FB/CB/CM)
Despite all the squads being virtually full the Garnett director of football (a certain P Powlett) gave Alex a chance, and he has impressed in training. A typical Dutchman he is comfortable on the ball and reads the game well. It is anticipated he will be an important member of the team this year, and adds much needed depth to the defence.

On signing Van Der Zee, Powlett said, ‘I like a bit of Continental in the Green and Black’, good luck Alex!

LIAM RILEY (LB/LM)
The diminutive left sided Riley is a cultured player who impressed last season with the reserves, despite this he has started this year’s campaign with the As. A player of considerable talent, but few words, he should really shine in the Corinthian league.

ADAM ROBINS (CB)
A Green and Black stalwart, Robbo was once unflatteringly compared to a female Hungarian shot putter. One of the clubs longest serving players he is also one of the most consistent, with Robbo ‘what you see is what you get’ and usually this is no nonsense, clear the house, defending. Few people know that he is also the grandson of a Hungarian Olympic shot put champion.

DAN COMMANE (CB)
Dan is that truly rare thing, a ball playing centre half. His poise and composure means that the back four always looks safe with him at the heart of it. Alongside Robbo he also looks rather slim and the pair should be one of the most commanding in the league.

TOM PENN (M)
A Garnett stalwart and minor legend (not so) young Penn has returned this season to battle for a place in the highly talented A team. Comfortable on either flack, going both ways, Tom can also ‘do a job’ in the hole. As well as being a real nice guy Tom is, apparently, accommodating in every sense of the word. Paddy has also commented on the quality of his crack. Say no more.

DAVE LYNCH (CB/CM)
The team captain is one of the few players lefts from last season’s campaign. Arguably he should have moved up to the Reserve’s with great work in the close season.  However, he has reacted in just the right way putting in superb performances for the A’s. Dave always plays with spirit and composure, and his shooting from 35 yards out is certainly something worth looking out for.

MATTY GWYILAM (M)
A close season signing from MethSoc, Matt provides extra steel to the A team midfield but is also an accomplished passer of the ball. Matt has also weighed in with some very important early season goals. Accusations of illegal payments (of kebabs) to his agent, (a certain D Ford), have been strenuously denied by both parties.

DAN BARRATT (CM/RM)
Another new addition to the A’s Dan showed real class in the season opening win versus Jesmond Mysterons. He has been utilised in the centre of the park or out wide and came off the bench to score twice during the rout of the B team. Another classy footballer he will ensure there is real competition for the midfield slots.

BEN THORPE (CF)
Ben, or Tom as he likes to be known, is often confused with his strike partner Ben Smith, the one foot height difference being the only obvious give away. Ben is fast, skilful and likely to cause more than one Corinthian defender a few nightmares. He is also another player who likes to let his feet do the talking.

MARK ENVY (CF)
Possibly the missing piece in the A team jigsaw Mark has stepped in to the shoes of recently promoted Ben Smith. Having signed from former Corinthian outfit D2 Mark scooped the B team player of the year award last term. He is a fantastic finisher and a very intelligent centre forward. He should provide an excellent foil to whippet boy Steve ‘X-Factor’ Cowles.

STEVE ‘X-FACTOR’ COWLES (CF)
Another member of last years reserve squad Steve will give the A’s even more attacking options. He has already found the net 7 times in 4 games for the A’s. His only drawback is an over eagerness to beat the off side trap, at this level he should push club legend Dan Sherwood close for the golden boot. Interestingly he shares his birthday with team mate Rich Holme, but is a year or so younger.

RICH HOLME (RW/CF) (By Robbo)
A very polite and hard working club man off the pitch. He has been responsible for arranging several successful fundraising events over the past seasons. These efforts led to him gaining the nickname of PWP (Paddy With Pace) during his stint with the B team 2 seasons ago. Living on a diet of just carrots, lentils and bread has enabled Rich to maintain his youthful looks and fitness despite being in the twilight of his career. He has the ability to score numerous goals from the right side of midfield but has still not mastered the art of defending or tracking back. I’m sure he will reach double figures by the end of the season
