GARNETT A TEAM REPORT
Saturday 4th November 2006 Amble United 4(0) vs. (0) 2 aet Garnett A

The 'A' Team arrived at Amble United a little uncertain of what to expect from the North Northumberland outfit. With little time to warm up it was probably not surprising that we started slowly but once we got a bit of belief in ourselves we started to play some good football, playing the ball out of defence and using the width on a wide pitch..  Although Amble probably had the better changes and were let down by their passing in the last third the A were deservedly level at half time.

Encouraged by the first half we played some good football in the second half with
Gwyllm and Elliott controlling the midfield and it was probably against the run of play
when Amble took the lead.  However to everyone's credit we picked ourselves back up
and were quickly level Van Der Zee bundling in after some good approach play.  Then
came a wonder strike from almost thirty yards from Elliott and it looked as if we might
just sneak this, but with around 7 minutes left to play came the strike from Amble that
was to take the game into overtime.

The first period of extra time saw Amble reduced to 10 men and we used this to our advantage knocking the ball about well and Envy creating problems for a tired looking Amble defence.

The defining moment came when Mark Envy shot over from close range and we then squandered possession in midfield letting Amble in and their forward made no mistake tucking the ball past a helpless Shaw.  Moments later the game was effectively over, again caught on the break and again the same result.

Many positives can be taken from the match and we were nowhere near the whipping boys I think Amble had expected us to be.  We gave them a fright,  however, at this level we simply cannot give away possession so cheaply as the opposition will punish us.
