MARK WRIGHT
(GK) Debut 2001
Coolio is a promising young shot stopper, who has made the Reserves
number 1 shirt his own after impressing in the B's. Coolio joined the
club this season through the Polly Benwell Hill CC connection.
MICHAEL HUGHES
(RB/RM) Debut 1999
Sweet-talking Reserve team manager now in his third season with the
Green and Black. Hughesy is a talented footballer that has spent most
of his Garnett career patrolling the right wingback spot for the Reserves.
MARK WARWICK
(LM/LB/CF) Debut 2001
Mark has been a versatile and reliable player, in this his first season
with the club. He has performed anywhere on the right and as a striker.
DOUG ALLISON (LM/LB) Debut
2000
Doug is one of the few survivors of last year's Reserve team, he
has made the left wing back position his own this season. Doug has been
one of the Reserves most reliable players this season, in this his 2nd
season with the club.
RICH TURNER (CM/LM)
Debut 2001
Rich is an enthusiastic fresher whose determined performances in
the B's won him promotion to the Reserves. Rich has lot of footballing
and athletic potential, his experiences with the Reserves and training
with the 1st team will put him in good stead for next season.
MARK ROGERS (RM/RB)
Debut 2001
Another promising youngster who has impressed in this, his debut
season. Mark has played for the 1st team at left back and midfield when
injuries have created openings and let no one down, he will be looking
to use this year's experiences to establish himself as a regular in
the 1st team next season.
ROGER MILLER (CB R/LB)
Debut 1992
A Garnett legend, Roger's commitment to the Garnett cause both on and
off the pitch is unmatched in the history of the Green and Black. Now
in his 10th season with his only club, Roger recently passed the magical
double centurion mark only previously reached by three others. If it
were not for an injuries Roger would be the most "capped"
Garnett player. A tough tackling defender Roger won a place back in
the 1st team squad this season, after a couple of years in the B team.
Unfortunately after a promising start to the campaign, Roger has once
again suffered from injury the Reserves are now benefiting from Roger's
presence at the back.
TOM WEBB
(CB) Debut 2000
Tom has enjoyed and outstanding season at the heart of the Reserves
defence after working his way up through the ranks. Tom played for 5th
team last season and started the season with the 3rd team but he has
made quick progress due to his excellent form. Tom should be confident
of winning a place in 1st team next season.
TIM CARNLEY
(CB/CM) Debut 1999
After a couple of year in the Reserve team and on the fringes of the
1st team Tim has finally established himself as 1st team regular this
season. A footballing defender of genuine class, Tim has been in outstanding
form this season growing in confidence with each game and was badly
missed when he was out for five games with knee ligament damage. Tim
has to be Ibbo's greatest ever signing.
ALEX MARTIN(CB)
Debut 2001
Alex is another promising young defender with high hopes of winning
a 1st team place next season, he has been one of the Reserves most consistent
performers this season. Fresher Alex has an excellent attitude on and
off the pitch and has benefited from training regularly with the 1st
team.
DAVID MERCER
(CB/CM) Debut 2000
David is another highly committed player who has a fantastic attitude
to training. David performed well for the Reserves last season to earn
a place in 1st team at start of the season, unfortunately just as he
was beginning to establish himself he suffered a long term ankle injury.
He is now making an influential comeback as central midfield anchorman
in the Reserves.
RICHARD CUSWORTH (CM/CB/RB)
Debut 1999
A loyal one-club man who has been a rock in this difficult season
for the Reserves. A determined and strong central midfielder, Cussy
is now in his 4th season with the club after finding employment in the
area after graduation. Cussy was a member of both Corinthian Championship
seasons and played in the Green and Black's only ever Cup Final success
in 1999 before moving down to the Reserves for the last two seasons.
GARETH
HOPKINS (CF/LWB) Debut 1997
One of the most committed players in club history Gaz has only missed
one game in his 5 years with the club! A highly versatile player Gaz
is capable of doing a job in virtually every position on the pitch.
This is Gaz's third season in 1st season after a season each in the
Reserves and the C team.
BEN
HOLMES (CM) Debut 1997
Ben has been with club ever since arriving in Newcastle 5 years ago
and has gradually worked his way up to the 1st team after 2 ½
seasons in the lower teams. A composed and reliable central midfielder,
Ben has produced the best football of his Garnett career this season.
GREG
STINSON (CF/CM) Debut 2000
The second member of the Stinson family to play for Garnett, brother
Neil played from 1997-2000. Greg has been a regular for the Wednesday
A Team, and helped Cussy run the Reserves when available.
DAVID ALEXANDER
(CF/CM) Debut 2001
Promising Irish newcomer with great ball skills and desire, David has
moved quickly through the ranks to win a place in 1st team squad. Only
18 years old and still learning how to play the game, David has already
chipped in with a few vital goals from his preferred attacking midfield
role.
TIM
BURKE-MURPHY (CM) Debut 2000
A hard running midfield dynamo, Tim has won a regular place in the 1st
team squad this season after learning the ropes under Polly in the Reserve
team last year as a wide eyed fresher. Tim is just returning to full
fitness and form after a long spell out with a hamstring injury. Tim
is another player prepared to work for the club off the pitch and has
taken over many of the Club Captain responsibilities this season.
"HOWIE"
SORENSEN (CM) Debut 2000
Another Norwegian, Howie has made a big difference
since coming into the team after the first month of the season. A strong
physical player with skills and vision to match, Howie is ideally suited
to the central midfield holding role. Howie joined the club midway through
last season after a spell out of the game and got himself back into
the flow in the Reserve team.
NEIL HINDLEY
(CM) Debut 1997
Neil has returned to the club this season. A skillful and athletic
midfielder Neil played for the 1st team as a fresher in 1997-98 before
leaving to play for Newcastle University. Unfortunately work commitments
have limited the involvement of this talented player to the cause.
KENNY ROSBACH
(CF) Debut 2001
Kenny is a very talented player who always plays with great enthusiasm.
Kenny scored an amazing 5 goals on his debut but unfortunately hamstring
injuries have blighted his season since, much to the Reserves loss.
Kenny has been involved with the 1st team on a few occasions this season
and will be hoping for a regular place next year.
CHRIS WATSON
(CF/CB) Debut 1996
Garnett's strongest man is now in his 6th season with the club,
Watto's aggression and determination have unsettled many a Geordie defence.
An inspiration to the less experienced players in the team, Watto is
an underrated finisher whose goal scoring record who needed only 8 goals
this season to become the fifth most prolific striker in the club's
history. This tally includes an impressive 7 in 8 games for the 1st
team. Watto is also responsible for scoring the goal for the C teams
that beat the A team in the Cup in 1997.
MARTIN
POLLARD (SW/CM) Debut 1995
Garnett veteran Pollard, now in his sixth season, continues to be an
influentially loud presence both on and off the field. Loves to arrive
late in the box and add to his burgeoning Garnett goal tally. Always
likes to see the simple ball being played.
DAN CORCORAN (CF/LM) Debut
2001
Gateshead lad, Dan, is a Garnett rarity a fresher who went to a
comprehensive. A highly skilful but diminutive left sided striker, Dan
came to the club's attention with 6 goals in one game for the 3rd team.
This is a record for the 3rd team and only been bettered by Danny Sherwood's
triple hatrick and magnificent 7. Dan recently made his Reserve team
debut after injury slowed down his promotion.
