2007 Newcastle City A 0 (0) vs. (5) 9 Garnett Academy
|
The academy came into today’s game not knowing what to expect from a Newcastle City side currently propping up the division. The addition of several players from the previous week meant that the Bohs had the full compliment of 3 subs for the first time this season. The game began with Garnett kicking into the wind first half and it was in fact Newcastle city who looked the brighter early on, but defensively they were coping with the movement of the Garnett nippy front two of Bell and Bremner.Garnett took the lead when Hall cut in from the right, exchanged passed before finishing coolly past the keeper. The second came shortly after with a neat finish from Bell for his first of three for the afternoon, his second followed shortly. At this stage Newcastle City started to fall apart and totally lost their shape allowing Garnett to play through them at will. Bremner could have had a first half hatrick if he had brought he shooting boots with him and could kick more than 10 yards against the wind! (This lad definitely needs to improve his leg strength!) Garnett made it five before half time thanks to further goals from Bell and Robins, the latter sneaking a touch from a Quine free kick already heading for the bottom corner. Half time approached and every player stressed the need to keep pressing and try and keep a clean sheet. Further goals from Otun, Inman, Bremner and Skilbeck made the final score 9-0, which didn’t flatter the away team. Overall it was a very good and professional performance from the Academy against a poor Newcastle City Team.
