GARNETT ACADEMY TEAM REPORT
Saturday 16th February 2007 Rutherford A 4 (4) vs. (0) 1 Garnett Academy

The Academy turned up to Beggarswood in Lobley Hill expecting a tough game against high flying Rutherford A. Matters were made worse by an injury crisis (or is it holidays or shopping with the missus) in the club which ruled out 20+ players for the weekends games.

Despite having to field 4 new players, Garnett started the brighter but the lack of continuity from the previous match was evident as the ball was repeatedly given away and the lack of options for the man in possession was evident from the start as players continually ran away from the ball.

Rutherford took the lead thanks to good work from their right winger who beat Garnett’s left hand side and pulled the ball across the front of goal for a simple back post tap in for the number 9. The second goal followed shortly with this time a cross from the right being uncontested and another tap in from the back post.At this stage Garnett heads were starting to drop and a third goal from a 30 yard volley looped over Crerar sealed Garnett fate.

A fourth followed after poor closing down and marking and Garnett went into half time 4-0 and looking shell shocked.Bohs came out for the second half and actually showed that they can play football and looked the better team, Adam Bell pulled one back but Garnett could not find another breakthrough and the score finished a demoralising 4-1 to a more enthusiastic Rutherford team.

This result throws the title race wide open with several teams still being able to clinch top spot.
