GARNETT A TEAM REPORT
Saturday 20th October 2007 Garnett A 2(0) vs. (0) 1 Wallsend The Anson

Carrying a few knocks and with a couple of 'new' faces the A's arrived to face a strong Anson side looking to close the gap at the top of the table.

As the new players settled in 'the Anson' had the majority of the play and Wilkinson in the home nets pulled off a couple of superb saves to keep the A's in the game.   The A's did find their feet as the half wore on and had the best chance of the half so far with first Thorp and then Envy producing back-to-back saves from the away keeper. With Thorp and Envy continuing to cause the Anson defence a few problems the A's began to grow in confidence and following a through ball from Deeble, Thorp did well to hold off  the defence and produce a calm finish.

After half-time and kicking 'up hill' the A's continued to frustrate the Anson and with 'Scargill' renewing his acquaintance with the mighty Green and Black and forming a solid central defensive partnership the A's began to take control of the game which Campbell and Welsh  also began to dominate in the centre of the park.

''Super sub'' Jim Cuthbert introduced in the last fifteen and linking up with Envy the A's carved out another opening, which, after what seemed an eternity, Jim finally slotted home from close range.  As the game drew to an end a slight lapse in concentration let the Anson in, however this proved to be no more than a consolation and anymore would have been unfair on the hard working A's who took the chances that were presented to them.

The A's have now beaten three of the early pace setters in the league and as long as they can find some consistency should be able to build on a safe mid table position in the New Year.
