Saturday 9th October 2004 Garnett C
1 (0) vs. (1) 3 Shieldfield Wednesday
|
With largely a full strength side, the Garnett boys were feeling quietly confident about this fixture, especially after last week's victory. The only major loss was influential keeper Rory Kroon, however unknown keeper Westy stepped up to the challenge and slipped on the gloves. The game took a nervy start with Wednesday having the upper hand and an early own goal from Swiggs put Garnett on the back foot almost straight away. Even though the team improved considerably up to half time, no equaliser was bagged. At half time it was certain changes had to be made, and the team switched to a 3-5-2 formation, with Matt Ireland and George Barker coming on from the bench to add width to the side. Garnett continued to improve, with chances from Lavery and Royal both saved by the Wednesday keeper. After Garnett appearing to take control, the team found themselves 2:0 down when Wednesday hit on the break. Still Garnett pressed to get back in the game and after Rob Wallace switched to his more favoured midfield position, he managed to pull a goal back for Garnett. The team looked to back in it, until once again, Wednesday got a shock third on the break, leaving Garnett wondering what could have been once the final whistle blew shortly after.
