GARNETT C TEAM REPORT
Saturday 30th April 2005 Axe Weilding Baboons 1 (0) vs. (0) 3 Garnett C

An unexpected fixture, meant the Saturday C boys reunited to play as champions, but were missing many players due to hangovers (disappointing), exams (understandable, but still disappointing) and in one case (no names) to go away for the weekend to play cricket!. Ironically, Garnett played anything like champions in the first half and when the half time whistle blew, were lucky to still be on level terms after a string of heroic saves from keeper Jenkins.

Changes were made, due to Chris Nunn, feeling it from the historic title clinching game last Wednesday and on came Andy, an impressive right winger keen to shine. This meant Appleby switched to upfront, and Bradley went to a very unfamiliar position of centre back.

Injury soon hit again, when Mark “He’s a centre back” Davey said he felt a twinge in his leg and was finding it difficult. An opposition player was asked whether the substituted Nunn could come back on, the reply was “I shouldn’t think so, it’s not in the rules,” in a Bo Selecta Craig David like tone. So Jambo stepped up to create with Bradley a make shift centre back force. The question is, was it a clever ploy from Davey to get himself upfront? We will never know.

Soon after, Appleby scored for Garnett in the first productive attack in a while, equalling the Saturday C Garnett record I believe! But it didn’t finish there, a penalty was awarded, and after shaking off some nerves Appleby struck low into the bottom left. It was a record breaking goal for the delighted Liam Appleby. The game was wrapped up in style when on-loan player Ben H dribbled from left midfield, past 3 players and drilled home to give Garnett a flattering score line. The Baboons hit the post from a corner lat on, but the game ended with the championship winning team ending the season on a high.
