Baboons 1 (0) vs. (0) 3 Garnett C
|
Garnett C resumed their charge to the IM Mural Div 3 championship in nonchalant fashion against an inept Axe Wielding Baboons outfit. Garnett were stroking the ball around on the laughable Close House surface and the opening 15 minutes was spent in the Baboons half. Brown and Hindle worked tirelessly to impose themselves on the midfield. Garnett failed to score in the early exchanges and began to play at a casual pace. This allowed the hapless Baboons back into the game - their threat was countered with ease by Nunn, composed and a quite magnificent reader of the game, and Simms, powerful and commanding. Early chances were squandered by Bradley and Royal. Haines, Brown and Hindle all registered speculative attempts. Atkinson was buccaneering superbly down the left and was delivering a lot of quality into the box. Half time saw a 0 - 0 score line and Garnett veteran Chris Nunn was quite rightly enraged at half time with the lackadaisical approach. Hindle and Brown were complimenting each other nicely in midfield, Hindle was scrapping and creating panic in the Baboons defensive third. Brown was quite magnificent - that boy has magic dust in his boots, he won everything in midfield and his touch on the cabbage patch was exquisite. Royal and Atkinson switched flanks so that the inspirational Atkinson could make use of the chasm of space on the Baboons left. The deadlock was broken by king poacher Appleby after a mis hit shot by Royal presented him with his tenth of the season. The second and decisive goal was engineered by Atkinson and Haines down the right flank - Atkinson drew in two players before teeing up Haines for the cross, the ball was whipped incisively to the back post and was duly shanked into the net by the hapless Baboons defender. The forwards Appleby and Bradley worked hard and made some intelligent runs creating space for the searing runs of Brown and Atkinson. The back four was dealing with the Baboons "threat" comfortably - Simms and Nunn would not have looked out of place at the Alamo whilst the supporting cast of Swiggs and Haines at right and left back they were looking destined for a clean sheet. A dodgy few minutes where the defence switched off gave Kroon some work - he saved at the feet of the Baboons forward with bravery and class - a hero!!! Atkinson added a third as Garnett took total control - the least he deserved! A sloppy moment two minutes from time denied Garnett
their fourth clean sheet in a row. The team switched off and left runners
free at the back post. Author: Doug Team: R.Kroon, D.Haines, R.Swiggs, C.Nunn, S.Simms, J.Atkinson 1, A.Hindle, J.Royal, B.Brown (MoM), L.Appleby 1, J.Bradley NB: The views expressed here are those
