Saturday 21th February 2004 Garnett B 7 (7)
vs.(0) 3 Philosophers
|
Garnett tore into their opponents in the first half of this match, with many of the chances coming down the wings from Garbutt and McMillan, the resulting corners player-manager Dan Ford delivered with inch-perfect precision to produce four goals from corners alone, the pick of the bunch being a towering header by Poole. Yet Garnett's dominance was not limited to the flanks. Three goals were scored from driving runs and shots from Man of the Match Cook, and from Holme. The later was was lucky to come off the pitch in one piece after a series of horror tackles by the Philosophers left-winger. 7-0 at half time, and one or two players were already contemplating a new Garnett record, as Holme urged the team to keep playing this enterprising football, and not to let their opponents back in the game. Unfortunately, this didn't happen. Philosophers scored three early goals in the second half, the pick of which was a 60 yard wonder goal. Well, not a wonder goal as such, more a clearance which bounced over the hapless Shaw. Garnett had few clear-cut opportunities, and the game fizzled out towards the end. 7-3 the final score, and another three points for Ford's men. Garnett are still in contention for the runners-up spot, but have to beat as yet unbeaten league leaders Outer Milan to claim second place. A tough task indeed, yet if Garnett can show the form they did for the first 45 minutes today, it's certainly a possibility.
