Saturday 16th October 2004 Garnett B 0 (0)
vs.(0) 2 Red Star Benwell
|
The very wet conditions made this a tough encounter for the Garnett B's against Division 1 opponents Red Star Benwell in the Calvert cup. Garnett played well and a mistake from Benwell's centre half, allowing the ball to slide under his foot, put Rich Holme clean through. Cutting inside, Holme was brought down for a penalty 5 minutes before half time though Lee Marshall was unable to keep the ball down as his spot kick soared over. Garnett were punished for this miss shortly after half time when a cross to the far post was duly converted. Excellent battling by man of the match Tomei in the middle of the park kept Garnett in this encounter with a few good chances from Ford crosses. Despite this pressure Garnett then gifted them their second after holding onto the ball for too long in midfield. A good effort and a little unfortunate not to have got something from this game. Author: Churchy Garnett B went down 2-0 to higher league team RS Benwell.
The first half was a tight affair with few chances. Benwell were restricted
to shots from distance by the Garnett defense. Garnett had the best
chance of the first half through a penalty after Rich "Harry Potter"
Holme had put a spell on the Benwell defence only to be brought down
by the keeper for a clear cut penalty. Team: E.Shaw, S.Cook, P.Church, L.Brooke, D.Pendlebury,
H.Tomei (MoM), R.Holme (A.Stobbart), D.Ford, L.Marshall, Mike, T.Rigby
