The very wet conditions made this a tough encounter for the Garnett B's against Division 1 opponents Red Star Benwell in the Calvert cup. Garnett played well and a mistake from Benwell's centre half, allowing the ball to slide under his foot, put Rich Holme clean through. Cutting inside, Holme was brought down for a penalty 5 minutes before half time though Lee Marshall was unable to keep the ball down as his spot kick soared over.

Garnett were punished for this miss shortly after half time when a cross to the far post was duly converted. Excellent battling by man of the match Tomei in the middle of the park kept Garnett in this encounter with a few good chances from Ford crosses. Despite this pressure Garnett then gifted them their second after holding onto the ball for too long in midfield. A good effort and a little unfortunate not to have got something from this game.

Garnett B went down 2-0 to higher league team RS Benwell. The first half was a tight affair with few chances. Benwell were restricted to shots from distance by the Garnett defense. Garnett had the best chance of the first half through a penalty after Rich "Harry Potter" Holme had put a spell on the Benwell defence only to be brought down by the keeper for a clear cut penalty.

Marshall stepped up to take the penalty and continued the Garnett tradiion this season by blazing the penalty over the bar.

In the second half the game opened up and Benwell took the lead when the #11 fired home from close range. Garnett then started to attack more and had a golden chance to make the game equal, when Marshall hit the post from a Ford free kick.
The result was then put beyond doubt when Garnett were caught in possesion inside thier own half by the Benwell #10 who slipped the ball through for the centre forweard to fire in leaving Shaw no chance.
The game then pettered out, however the B's can take credit for a good 1st half preformance.
