GARNETT B TEAM REPORT
Saturday 14th February 2004 Garnett B 5 (1) vs.(1) 1 Dynamo Fenham

Considering this was valentines weekend i was glad to see very few absentees, and none were love related. This game at the beginning of the season would have been seen as a formality, but going into this game Fenham were above the Bs in the league despite being battered 6-0 in the previous meeting.

Fenham started the game with a very high tempo and took a deserved early lead and could have doubled it soon after. The Bs were rattled and needed to get a grip on the game. As Garnett came more into the game the score was brought level when Andy Bell was set away down the left by Ford and his smart centre was finished off by Rich Holme. If anything, this seemed to slow Garnett down as they switched off, and a poor finish to the half by both teams left the scores level.

Half time 1-1, with the congestion at the top of the league this game was a must win, if any slight chance of winning the league was to be kept alive. Garnett started the second half the better team but couldn't find a breakthrough, that is until Tom Rigby slid to keep a ball in, 30 yards out and the resulting cross left the keeper hopelessly deceived, as the ball flew over him, opening Tom's account for the Green and Black. Garnett forced a corner which Nick Garbutt swung in, again the keeper was nowhere as the kick went straight in to give the Bs an important two goal cushion.

An early injury to Powers was followed by an injury in the second half to his defensive partner Robins. James Poole entered the fray and Garnett immediately forced another corner. The corner was taken by Ford and with his first touch Poole made it 4-1 from close range. The game had completely swung in the favour of Garnett, Fenhams early promise had completely disappeared.

It now became about goal difference for Garnett as they lag behind the teams around them, chance after chance was missed by a variety of culprits, until Rigby obviously not satisfied the keeper had been embarrassed enough crossed the ball from deep again, the keeper decided it deserved to be thrown in the net, in all my time in football I've never seen such embarrassment from anyone after scoring a goal. The last 15 minutes was a story of missed chances by the Bs which in truth, has been the story of the season, hopefully it'll have a happy ending.

Team: E.Shaw, T.Rigby 2 (MoM), S.Cook, A.Robins (N.Blogg), A.Powers (J.Poole 1), G.Kent, R.Holme 1, Andy Bell, K.Jones, D.Ford, N.Garbutt 1
