Saturday 2nd April 2005 Garnett B 5 (1) vs.(0)
2 Barnstoneworth
|
On a fine sunny day, with, for once, no wind at Bullocksteads, Garnett B looked to put the disappointment of two weeks ago behind them. Garnett started the brighter of the two teams but did make trouble for themselves early on by not doing the simple thing. Nevertheless it was Garnett who went ahead. Holme, making a break from out own half, put in a cross that the Barnstoneworth defender headed expertly into his own net from the edge of the area. Garnett now looked the stronger of the two sides with Holme and Marshall both having great chances to extend our lead. Rigby was excellent in midfield, winning challenges left right and centre, to stop any Barnstoneworth movement. The second half got off to a great start with Holme scoring early on. Unfortunately we needlessly put ourselves under pressure when Powers pulled down the Barnstoneworth striker for a penalty. Shaw was sent the wrong way to put Barnstonworth back in it. Holme, however, was playing havoc with their right back and got Garnett their two goal lead back with another well taken goal. As ever, Barnstoneworth came back and Shaw, not to be outdone by Rob Scott on the neighbouring pitch, let the ball through his legs from a weak cross. Late on Barnstoneworth pushed for the winner and Holme capitalised on the erratic defending by their goal keeper to get two further goals. A good return to form for Garnett that puts keeps the pressure on the chasing pack. A few mistakes at the back weren’t punished but excellent work by Rigby and well taken goals by Holme ensured that all the points went to Garnett.
