GARNETT A MATCH REPORT
Saturday 24th April 2004 Newcastle City 2 (0) vs.(0) 2 Garnett A

Garnett stay top of league with a hard fought draw against nearest rivals Newcastle City.

The first half was one to forget with neither team looking like scoring; however Harty had to be alert on one occasion to push a City player's shot onto a post.

In the second half however, the game was more open. Garnett took the lead when Young bagged his 28th goal of the season after a one-two with Deeble to finish from a tight angle. City then struck back after Garnett failed to clear a corner properly and the #7 was left unmarked to fire at Harty who pulled off a tremendous save but the rebound fell to a City striker who finished from 2 yards out.

Garnett kept playing football and looked dangerous when attacking but went behind when Janes was adjudged to have handled in the area. The City #8 then scored from the resulting penalty. Garnett levelled minutes later through a Mercer penalty after Penn had forced a hand ball from the City left back.

This is how the game stayed but both teams had chances to win the game and a draw was an overall fair result. Garnett need 4 points from 2 games to secure the league title.
