Garnett A march on to the BBC Radio Newcastle Cup Final
with an efficient and professional performance against Garnett B.
As wth all derbies the game was frantic and little football played early
doors. However, as the game progressed Garnett A started to pass the
ball around with more composure, and this lead to the first chance of
the game when Young played in Bell whose lob went over the keeper and
also the bar.
Minutes later Garnett B had their best chance of the game when Kent
was the first to react to a knock down in the area but his shot was
well saved from Harty.
Garnett A took the lead when Holmes stuck a 25 yard free kick
into the top corner past Shaw. This is how the game stayed until half
time.
Early on the second half Garnett B pushed on without really creating
a chance, mostly due to the standard of the A's defence who looked solid
and organised. Young then made it two when he sprang the off-side
trap after Smith had set him free. Young finished cooly rounding Shaw.
Garnett B finished strongly and pushed 3 up front but Garnett A held
on to reach the final.
