An all too familar story.
The Reserves dominate much of theh match playing some excellent football
in spells, miss a crucial penalty and lose.
A very young side with 3 freshers and 4 second years played well enouggh
to win but were left frustrated and despondant. On the positive side
freshers Andy Smith at full back, central midfielder Chris Pearce and
striker Craig Allen all looked good prospects for the future. On another
day Allen woiuld ahve had a hatrick, missing a one on one, having his
well struck and placed penalty superbly saved and hitting the post.
The back four was once again rock solid, keeping the dangerous Medicals
strike force quiet for much of the game. Until Medics left back Ben
Scott drove a free kick around the wall in 74th minute, keeper Kevin
Harty had not been seriously tested. With the Reserves desperately pushung
forward for a deserved equaliser, Medicals broke away 2 v 1 and star
striker Daniel Donaghue, who had previously been superbly shackled by
Adam Alexander, took his only chance of the game with aplomb.
On the negative side, the Reserves now have 2 points from 5 games and
missed 3 consecutive penalties. In the latter stages too many silly
free kicks were given away and Alexander picked another uneccessary
booking for dissent.
I am still confident that we will turn this around as the spirit and
general quality of play is good but we must take our chances toi relieve
pressure on our back four.
