Saturday 16th April 2005 The Bush Wallsend 1 (0) vs.(4) 5 Garnett Bohemian

The Reserves earned the three points, which should secure their safety for next season with a surprisingly easy away win over Wallsend the Bush. The Bush had been arguably the best side the Reserves had faced in their early season meeting at Benson Park so an extremely hard game was anticipated. Boosted by the presence and few wise words from 1 st team manager Alan Wilkinson, the Reserves for once killed off a game. By half time the Reserves had raced to an unassailable 4-0 lead, ruthlessly exploiting a below strength opposition. The seemingly indefatigable Adam Bell scored the first two. Andy Parkinson powered down the right to cross to provide him with a simple finish before he exploited a poor back pass. Veteran Martin Pollard, who once again ran his heart out, volleyed in a fine third before the returning Nico Heslop passed to Pollard who played Dave Alexander in for the fourth. The Reserves maintained their work rate throughout the 2 nd half, with reunited first choice midfield pairing of Heslop and energetic fresher Chris Pearce continuing to dominate. Fresh legged substitutes Tom Penn and Chris Jackson replaced the industrious Andy Bell and Dave Alexander, before Adam Bell powered in a header for a thoroughly deserved hat-trick. With keeper Kev Harty vocally collecting every long ball and cross and the new central defensive partnership of Andy Smith and Adam Alexander rock solid, the Bush rarely threatened despite a second half rally. The diminutive fresher Smith looked totally home at centre back while Adam Alexander maintained his excellent form. It was disappointing then, when his unnecessary challenger on the edge of the area cost him a booking and the team a clean sheet from the resulting penalty. This had to be taken twice as a Bush player managed to get himself by kicking Smith off the ball as the first attempt was taken. Praise must be given to the young referee who kept the game under control throughout.
