Who was supposed to be writing this one up eh? Answers
on a postcard - Roger:
It didn't look too promising as the Reserves inspected a partially
frozen pitch at last year's champion's ground. But the sun was out and
the game went ahead, but perhaps crucially Newcastle City didn't look
like the fancied it much as the turned up in dribs and drabs. By contrast
manager Pollard keep reiterating the need for focus during the warm
up. By the end of the first half, the Reserves were 2-0 up deservedly
so, both from Hopkins, despite keeper Hepburn having to pull
off a solid penalty save.
Newcastle City came back stongly in the second half, only to be expected
as they needed a win to keep alive any hope remaining champions. As
the pitch became increasing like a skid pan, they pressed hard and scored
following a corner. Fortunately our dynamic left midfielder finally
scored one of the several chances he had in a hurry. We ran out 3-1
winners on the day. A massive result.
