2004 Gosforth Bohemians Garnett 1 (0) Cullercoats 0 (0)
|
A tired 1st team staggered past 1st Division strugglers Cullercoats in a Subsidary Cup Group tie. The softest of goals won the points for Bohemians, when the completely unmarked Mark Brown stooped to head home a Hindley corner in the 45th minute. After the exertions of recent days, not least Monday's tremendous 4-2 victory over Percy Main who are second in the Alliance Premier, it was no surprise that Boheminans were more lethargic than normal. The ball was given away too easily and Cullercoats too often given too much time on the ball due to fatigued minds and legs. Despite this, Bohemians were still too strong for Cullercoats and competed hard throughout, none more so than the ever energetic duo of Dave Mercer and John Hall. Commanding keeper Fraser Hepburn only had one real save to make, which he did splendidly. Bohemians had chances to add to their tally with Neil Hindley hitting teh bar after an excellent run by Sherwood and Hall powering his way through to be denied by a good save. All too often chances were wasted by a reluctance to shoot or supporting players getting too far ahead of the ball. All in all, a deserved win and due reward for the character
and commitment shown. One concern was influential fullback Mark Menton's
early hamstring injury. He was sent straight home for ice and elevation,
and it is hoped that after 8 days rest he will be available for the
final. Author: Pad Team: F.Hepburn (MoM), M.Buckley, M.Menton (A.Alexander),
