GARNETT 1ST TEAM REPORT
Thursday 21st March 2002 Garnett 1st 2 (0) vs. (1) 3 Wallsend the Ship Inn
Match Report
A makeshift Garnett team crashed to a damaging defeat at the hands of a determined Ship, in a game played at Walker Lightfoot. Despite being severely weakened by unavailability's, Garnett still should have won this game as they had the majority of the possession and created the better chances.

Unfortunately silly individual mistakes proved costly. A rash challenge in the penalty area gave the Ship a 1-0 interval lead. Garnett cam back to equalize through a scrambled Vamrak effort but shortly after the ball was given away and seconds later Garnett trailed again.

Garnett piled on the pressure and looked like equalizing but another moment of madness in defence left emergency keeper Dave Mercer stranded and the ball was chipped over him. Garnett did not give up and Vamrak rose like a salmon to head in powerfully from a Logan free kick to give the Green and Black hope but it was too little too late.

On the positive side debutant Tom Webb looked assured at centre back, Peter Curtis gave an outstanding performance handling highly rated Northern League striker Paul Hollier with assurance, veteran Keith Jones made an impressive 1st team debut as a second half substitute becoming the oldest player to play a 1st team game.

Team: Valenza, Elliott (Jones), Turner, Curtis, Webb, Rogers, Logan, Mercer, Vamrak 2, Egeland, Rowson
