GARNETT WED A TEAM
Wed 2nd November 2005 Garnett A 4 (2) vs. (0) 1 Z Lions

The A's exacted sweet revenge today afer completely destroying Z Lions. After the poor defeat two weeks ago when by our own admission we played far below the expected standard a determined and dogged A's came out firing. Strengthed by the inclusion of Brown at centre back the game was played at a fast pace with the A's on their game from the first whistle. With the tackles flying about early on it was great to see the A's pass a physical test as they matched their counterparts tackle for tackle.
Once the side settled the A's began to play some neat football and got the the ball out wide quickly to wingers Mullan and Tomei.

The A's were unlucky not to take the lead when they won a corner. From this Heslop whipped a great ball into the box that saw Brown smash his header off the bar with the Lions keeper well beaten.
However it was not long before the A's were ahead when man of the match Mullan evaded one challenge then skipped another to get himself into the box. Mullan then rifled his shot into the bottom corner to give the A's the lead they had been searching for.

Mullan was unlucky not score his second when a ball from the right was met with his head only to see his effort go wide.

With the A's in complete control the second goal came soon after when Mullan again the architect sending Heslop through with a great slide rule pass that put Heslop in the clear. After good covering from a Lions defender the A's had a corner that Heslop agin sent in with pace and curl and there Hill rose to put his header firmly in to the back of the net.

Lions were maybe a little unlucky not be back in it before half time when they won an indirect free kick on the edge of the box. They put the ball in but Harty used all his experience (it doesn't always have to be the hands lads)to complain about a stray ball that had rolled onto the pitch. The ref obliged and the Lions wasted the retake.

The second half started with Z Lions snatching a quick goal where an effort the Lions striker could not do again if tried one hundred times put the ball past Harty from from long range with a large slice of luck. Emphasise on the word SLICE!!!

Heslop added the third when he broke into the box and was fouled by the Lions left back. Heslop also dipatched the penalty to the goalkeepers left and although he got a hand to it the ball found it's way to the bottom corner.

From here there was no way back for the Lions as Hill and Pearce created a wall in front of the excellant back four of Jackson, Smith, Brown and Mills. Misery was compounded by the ruthless A's when Substitute Emmet on for Heslop collected a long goal kick and Played in Tomei on the right who put in a stunning ball to the back post where Mullan planted his header back across goal for his second and Garnett's fourth.

With Allen leading the line with his usual mix of brute strength and typical panache the A's saw the game out to move into the next round where they will once again have to be at their best as they will be taking on old rivals Dyslexic.
