GARNETT ACADEMY TEAM REPORT
Saturday 27th October 2007 Jesmond Mysterons 3(1) vs. (1)2 Garnett Academy

The Academy team was left devestated after throwing away three points against second bottom Mysterons.  Weak as piss defending and a truly inpsirational goalkeeping performance by the  Mysterons keeper were to blame, as the Academy conceded two goals in last 10 minutes.

The Academy named a much changed team with the return of Ed Shaw in nets after his impressive performance against Chemfica, right back Paul Turner coming back after fracturing ribs and Old Boy Dave Mullan.  Scotsamn Joe Hogdon and significantly 16 year old Daniel Quine made their debuts for the Green and Black.  Daniel is the son of former 1st team keeper Rob.

Bohs made the worst possible start when the otherwise rock solid centre half Robbo misjudged a header from a long punt allowing the Mysterons centre forward to volley home.  A very poor goal to concede.  Bohs then took control of the game with central midfielder Hogdon quickly showing that he is a player capable of playing at a higher level.  Unfortunately Bohs were up against a brave and aggressive goalkeeper who dealt superbly with Tom Cullen's monster throws and Bohs numerous corners.

Eventually the pressure paid off and Potter forced home a poachers goal from 6 inches shortly before half time. At half time, a tactical reshift saw Mullan move to target man and Potter put wide right.  These changes saw an improvement in Bohs performance and their pressure was rewarded when Potter cleverly won a penalty.  Unfortunately Adam Bell's penalty was well saved.

Bohs kept pressing and took a well deserved lead when the outstanding Hodgdon scored and excellent individual goal.  Bohs appeared to be in control but suffered a blow when Robbo had to go off with his recurring back injury to be replaced by Old Boy Jamie Mills.  With 10 minutes left, Mysterons who had not had  shot since their goal were gifted an equaliser when the otherwise excellent Cullen got too cocky in his penalty area an unsuccessfully tried to flick the ball over the Mysterons striker.

Bohs fought back but were caught out in the last minute when more pathetic defending saw Bohs fail to deal with another long punt down the middle.  Turner, who had a quietly impressive game at right back was forced to bring down his man for what looked like a penalty and a red card.  Luckily the otherwise excellent referee kept his card in the pocket and awarded a free kick on the edge of the box.

The defensive wall looked to have done it's job but before any Boh could react Mysterons sub blasted a scremer into the top corner for a heart breaking winner. Bohs can be pleased with their overall performance especially the displays of Man of the Match Hogdon and Dan Quine who displayed a good temperament and a decent left foot but must quickly learn to defend with greater organisation and ruthlessness.
