The mighty green and black came into this game expecting
a tight game with Philosophers normally hard to beat. this wasn't the
case as Garnett took full control and scored two early goals with Dave
Rutherford heading in and Keith Jones Forcing the ball over
from close range after crosses from the majestic Ford.
The referee seemed to feel sorry for the Philosophers as he refused
to give a penalty as firstly Dan Ford was pole-axed and then Mike Deeble
tripped with only a free kick on the edge for the latter of incidents,
Marshall hitting the crossbar form the set piece. Garnett did earn a
penalty when a defender handled in the box, Sam Marshall converting
to make it 3-0. half time.
Any chance of a fight-back was quickly ended when Garnett scored two
early goals, with Marshall and Kent scoring. Tom Sheehan
felt sorry for the extremely cold and bored Ed Shaw and replaced him
in net and promptly conceded a consolation, it did not matter much as
goals from Marshall twice, Ford and a emphatic own goal
which could have been credited to Ford if no one else was watching,
as his shocking attempt at goal looped up and forced the defender to
head against his own bar and a fellow Philosopher to blast it into the
top corner from the rebound.
The game was becoming a bit of a farce and the players were happy to
see it end and start the poorly attended night out(Christmas dinner
in November has to be the worst excuse ever Mr Powers) at least Zammo
turned up in the shape of Paul Rankin
