GARNETT B TEAM REPORT
Saturday 27th March 2004 Red Star Benwell 2 (1) vs.(3) 4 Garnett B

With a possible semi-final clash with Garnett A on the cards, our only chance of silverware this season losing was never an option. With what manager Dan Ford penned 'our best bench all season' everyone had to give their best.

Despite the importance of this game we started cautiously, giving the ball away far too often in midfield. Thankfully Powers and Robbins were on hand to clear the lines on more than one occasion. Few chances were created by either side in the first 15 mins, until a superb miss kick by Church allowed an Red Star and easy finish from 6 yards. Garnett B responded well to this early setback and were soon on level terms when McMillan headed in from a Ford cross.

This fired the Bs up and they were now producing flowing confident football. After good work down the left by McMillan, after combining with Church and Kent, the Red Star keeper fumbled his cross and Jones was on hand to tap home. Ten minutes later the Bs were 3-1 up after McMillan was fouled, Ford put in a long ball to the far post, where the onrushing Holme expertly placed the ball in net with his nose.

The second half started much like the first with Red Star having much of the attacking possession. Good tracking and an excellent stop from Kent was the only thing preventing them getting back into the game. Ford then substituted himself for Blogg with Cook fitting into the midfield. Man of the Match Robins looked comfortable despite Red Stars pressure. Shortly after Garbutt came on for Jones and was on hand to put the game beyond doubt. Finally Rigby came on for Church and despite one more defensive error, in the shape of a last minute penalty given away by Powers, this was a solid and determined performance by a Garnett side that firmly believes they can go all the way. Bring on Garnett A!!
