GARNETT BOHEMIAN 1ST TEAM REPORT
Mon 28th April 2003 Garnett Bohemians 1 (1) vs. (0) 0 Newcastle University A

Record scorer Danny Sherwood hammered home the only goal of a hard fought game against a competitive University team. With ex University club captain Shaun Cavanagh in inspirational form and the rapidly improving Adam Alexander having his best game for the club alongside him at the heart of the Green and Black defence, returning keeper Michael Crammond did not have a save to make.

Garnett started in determined mood, with Andy Logan playing in his preferred central midfield role and the ever-immense Dave Mercer putting in some crunching challenges setting the tone. On a bumpy pitch the University struggled to get the ball down and pass it, as they were quickly closed down by eager Garnett players. While Garnett's passing was not at it's highest standard, they still put together some threatening moves and from one of these the excellent Rich Watson shot was spilled by the visiting keeper allowing Sherwood to gleefully crash into the roof of the net.

The rest of the game was a war of attrition with Garnett defending with real desire and organisation and still creating the better chances. By half time three players were off injured, Jason Thompson and Matt Buckley for Garnett. Tom Webb returned to the frame with an excellent performance at right back while David Alexander slotted in up front.

Garnett had one let-off midway through the 1st half, when along ball over the top caught them out but the University's centre forward smashed it against the bar as Crammond quickly came out. This was their last threat and Garnett held on as comfortably as one can in a one goal game.
