GOSFORTH BOHEMIAN GARNETT REPORT
Wednesday 27th August 2003 Gosforth Bohemian Garnett 6 (3) Prudhoe RTH 1 (1)

Bohs turned in their most fluent performance of the young season proving too strong for a young Prudhoe side. Injuries ruled out Gaz Hopkins and Dave Cave while Mark Menton was unavoidably delayed at work so there were recalls for fit again Neil Hindley and Matt Buckley in midfield, while Brendan Mallie looking trim from his cycling exploits on the continent slotted in at left back.

The Green and Black were quickly on the offensive and it soon became clear that the visitors were lacking pace at the back, especially in the fullback positions. It was not until midway through the first half that Bohs took the lead, after several close scrapes, when Buckley scored with an attempted left foot cross from the right which curled into the top corner leaving the keeper no chance. Five minutes before half time Danny Sherwood scrambled his record breaking 200th goal for the club when Dave Mercer played Buckley behind the visiting defence. A minute later Prudhoe replied with a freak goal, with keeper Dave Martin blinded by the sun a long range effort found it's way into the top corner. Crucially Bohs went two goals ahead again before half time when Sherwood's superb pass played in John Hall who finished emphatically.

Prudhoe attempted a come back in the second half but with dumb and dumber central defensive partnership of Adam Alexander and David Robinson once again dominant, keeper Martin for the second game in the row was never really tested. Jason Thompson replaced the tiring John Hall and immediately caused real problems with his pace, Michael Cave was equally as dangerous with his dribbling ability. It was no surprise when Thompson twice nipped in to finish calmly or that Mallie, pushed up into midfield with the late arrival of Menton, finished off another swift break.

To their credit Prudhoe never gave up but they simply could not cope with Bohs superior fitness, strength and passing but they had some promising players and will be a team to watch out for in a year or two. All in all a very encouraging performance from Bohs especially considering that there were players missing and one or two are not up to full fitness. There has been a steady improvement in each game but everyone must realise that this must continue if the stronger teams are to be vanquished.
