GOSFORTH BOHEMIAN GARNETT REPORT
Sat 20th December 2003 Gosforth Bohemians Garnett 8 (2) Daisy Hill Turbinia 0 (0)
After a disappointing defeat by the same opposition last time, nothing less than 3 points was needed from this fixture. 2 defeats already in the league and a strong pre-match talk from Alan explained that the team who goes up as Champions have never gone up with more than three defeats in one season. If this wasn't to spur us on to victory, nothing would.

Absenteeism and a pissed up Hindley meant a new look midfield. Paul Menton came in for Hall on the right to play his first even game with his brother Mark. Buck took over from Mullen on the left and King started his first game for the 1st team. The hung-over Hindley didn't even make the bench, but he appeared happy in one of the new Hepburn supplied SUBSTITUTE suits.

A good first 20 minutes, bright and crisp, two touch passing created the opening for two goals. The first provided by Sherwood dribbling it around a stranded keeper (well, a keeper who had fallen under the weight of his upper body) to place the ball in an open net. Thompson's pace was always going to cause the oppositions defence problems and the second came from a classy run down the left which made openings for Sam and Brown in the box, a simple square ball to Sam enabled him to pass the ball into yet another open net. Cruising at two nil up, it seemed as if the green and black had taken their foot off the gas and openings were starting to appear in defence. Thankfully, Daisy Hill had nothing up front, which could punish these lapses. After a sloppy 25 minutes, which included several spurned chances, the half time whistle came with a sigh of relief.

The second half saw the bohemians go from strength to strength, Taff yet again a rock at the back. Mercer's constant running in midfield (and his abuse towards Jason and Danny!) and Jason's running and link up play causing a constant threat. The pressure paid off and more goals resulted: 2 for Thompson, another 3 for Sherwood and 1 for Dan Corcoran. Will Phillips made his debut for the 1st team coming on at right back and Pollard notched yet another subs appearance.

8-0 final result, a good end to the year and a much needed confidence boost. The game also proved how good a squad coach Alan Wilkinson has to choose from, something he pointed out after the game. He was particularly pleased with the performance of Paul Menton.
