GOSFORTH BOHEMIAN GARNETT REPORT
Saturday 13th September 2003 Morpeth A 1 (1) Gosforth Bohemian Garnett 1 (1)

Facing quality opposition for first time this season Bohs were grateful for a draw in a day that little went right for them. Potential long term injuries to captain Shaun Cavanagh, vice captain Mark Brown and Brendan Mallie were the main blight on the day but dropping 2 points to a serious Championship challenger was almost as disappointing.

Despite knowing how important the game was Bohs started sluggishly with few players playing up to standard and deserved to fall behind to a free kick after fifteen minutes that eluded keeper Dave Martin and went in off the post. Martin then kept Bohs in the game with a good save from a one on one. This produced an immediate response when Dave Mercer played in Jason Thompson who put a good chance wide. This was a rare bright moment before Morpeth gifted Bohs an equalizer just before half time, Hindley intercepting a pass across the back four and Danny Sherwood finishing clinically.

At half time an already very doubtful Brown had replaced Mallie but after 10 minutes he was clearly unfit and replaced by goal keeper James Poole who responded with an enthusiastic performance. Skipper Cavanagh bravely soldiered on with a hamstring injury and will hopefully have not done too much long term damage.

Bohs reacted with character to adversity and had much the better of the second half with John Hall outstanding in his new centre of midfield role and Dave Mercer putting a typical all action performance along side him. Thompson playing his first full game after a long term injury was twice denied by the keeper from good positions and he and Sherwood were denied by late off side flags and decisions on too many occasions. Matt Buckley was again excellent as right back and then left back.
