GARNETT BOHEMIAN TEAM REPORT
Sat 12th October 2002 New York North Tyne Sup 0 (0) vs. (0) 1 Garnett Bohemian

A cool strike mid way through the second half by Dave Alexander secured Garnett's second win of the season against a spirited New York side. On another day the winning margin could have been more but on a day when conditions didn't suit Garnett's free flowing football the one nil score line was an excellent result. Chances were at a premium in a mainly scrappy fist half, with the only real chance falling to Alexander who missed from close range after a through ball from Logan. New York competed well but offered little up front and their attacking duo (featuring a "Victor Meldrew" look alike) were easily marshalled by the excellent centre half pairing of Martin and Cavanagh. The only other chance in a largely forgettable first half came just before half time via a 20 yard Hindley free kick, which was struck just over.

Garnett buoyed by a rousing half time team talk from Paddy (a.k.a. John Peel) took the field in the second half with fresh impetus to break New York's off side trap but as weather conditions deteriorated, so did the eye sight of the referee who continued to incorrectly rule Garnett players off side.
Finally the off side trap was broken with Alexander making amends for his earlier missed chances by side footing home mid way through the second half. New York responded to the goal with spell of sustained pressure but the Garnett defence held strong with some excellent tackles much to the annoyance of New York's "Victor Meldrew" striker who was growing increasingly irritated with Alex Martin's strong challenges.
With 20 minutes to go the game saw the introduction of the "crafty cockney" Rich Turner who was brought on up front for Sam and immediately made an impact with a clever through ball to Alexander who was again incorrectly ruled offside. The remainder of the game was played out with Garnett in control and dominating possession with Hindley and Howie pulling the strings in midfield. Overall Garnett easily deserved the victory and had it not been for some inept refereeing the margin of victory could have been far greater.

"Smash and grab raid"
TYNESIDE AMATEUR LEAGUE - DIVISION ONE
New York  0  Garnett Bohemians 1

IT wasn't to be New York's day as bogey team  Garnett   snatched the three points in a  smash  and  grab raid.
The last time these two teams met at the  Bohemians'  ground in Gos-
forth, the  New  Yorkers  did every-
thing but win the game, having hit the  woodwork,  goals  disallowed and  even  missing a  last  minute penalty.
This time,  however,  it wasn't so clear-cut  as  the   teams  cancelled each  other  out  through  midfield
with both defences being organised extremely well.
John Thewlis  and  Billy  Simmons had chances  for  New  York  in  the first half,  but  the  visitors  defence held firm.
   Michael  Eggleton and  Chris Hut-
ton on the wings for the home team probed  and  delved,  but  couldn't gain  much  breakthrough  against resolute full backs. In defence, the returning Dave Hopkins partnered old hand, Paul Foster, in the centre and  along  with  full  back  pairing Mark  Pearson  and  captain  Sean Ornsby, restricted  Garnett to long range efforts.
Keeper  Adam  Thompson had lit-tle to do for most of the match, but could do nothing about what turned

out to be the winning goal half way through the second half. A Thomp-son goal kick was returned unchal-lenged,  allowing   visiting  striker, Dave  Alexander,  through  and  the striker slipped his only clear chance of the game home.
New York pressed for the elusive equaliser,  Foster  pushing  forward to partner, Thewlis and Dean Tay-lor up front,  but to no avail.  With Micky Waldon urging the team for-ward   from   centre   midfield   the home side searched for that needed goal.
Ornsby headed a right wing cor-ner just over the bar, Simmons shot just wide and  Thewlis  had the ball saved  at  his  feet  from the visiting keeper.
Garnett  themselves  could  have snatched  a  further  goal  as  they broke  well  from  defence,  but  this would  have  been  an  even  greater injustice.
However,   the   visitors   returned home to  Gosforth in high spirits as the villagers' thoughts immediately turned to next week's fixture at old adversary,  Gateshead Three Tuns.
