GOSFORTH BOHEMIAN GARNETT REPORT
Saturday 10th April 2004 Prudhoe RTH 3 (3) Gosforth Bohemians Garnett 3 (1)

In a must win league game, Garnett started slowly and were 1-0 down before they realised they were in a game, a free kick sailing over Hepburn's head into the back of the net. After going behind, Garnett responded fairly well and a chance was carved out for Thompson who finished coolly when put through 1 on 1 with the keeper.

Some sloppy defending at the back post saw Garnett fall behind again as Prudhoe's left winger slotted the ball into the corner of the net. The firsts fell further behind in the second half when a Prudhoe breakaway seemed to catch the Garnett defence AWOL and left the unlucky Hepburn cruelly exposed

As the second half progressed, Garnett seemed to be dead and buried. They created a number of chances but nothing seemed to be falling for the strikers in the box. Things looked more and more desperate and it seemed that Garnett were destined for defeat. Dave Mullen was brought on, on the left side and this seemed to change the pattern of play as Mullen was consistently able to get to the by-line and deliver decent balls.

The final few minutes arrived and captain Shaun Cavanagh managed to strike a ball home after a shot had rebounded off the post. This gave the Green and Blacks hope and they threw everyone forward in a desperate attempt to rescue something from the game. Dramatically, in the last minute they did. As a ball bounced around in the box, Jon Hall managed to get his head to it with the keeper stranded and bundle it past a couple of defenders on the goal line. A point had been saved but such a poor performance against a team languishing in the league could not have given Garnett much of a boost in their push for promotion.
