GARNETT WED B TEAM REPORT
Wed 19th October 2005 Garnett B 4 (1) vs. (3) 4 Barca-Law-Na

With Garnett B finding themselves at the foot of Division 1 after just two games, a result was imperative. The opposition, Barca-Law-Na were top and looking impressive but the players went into the game with no fear and hoping to find some much needed form.

A few changes were made, with Mills being called into the A squad, Kieran Holmes made his debut at right back. Royal moved to centre back with the experienced Nunn and Steve Cowles returned up front after his loan spell with the A’s. The B’s made a steady start, threatening down the wings with Normington and Atkinson, however once again a mistake from a set piece, this time a corner allowed the Law team to take the lead. Garnett battled hard despite the set back, and an equaliser came through an unlikely source in the shape of Chris Nunn grabbing his first of the season.

Unfortunately the equaliser failed to inspire Garnett and it wasn’t long before another set piece error put Barca in front. A free kick from the left of goal was curled into the net despite the efforts of Normington on the line. Conceding that goal seemed to kick Garnett into action and the team started playing some decent football, with captain Lavery working hard all over the pitch. Several chances were spurned from Atkinson and Cowles to put Garnett back on level terms and although a goal didn’t come Garnett seemed far from down and out. This was of course until the referee’s bizarre decision to award Barca with a penalty just before the end of the second half after a foul on keeper Kroon was mysteriously given the other way. The Law team duly obliged and dispatched clinically.

Some tough talking at half time, kicked the B’s into a determined and positive attitude and after much pressing a goal was pulled back through Steve Cowles, giving the team so much needed confidence. The game stayed at 3:2 for a long period with both teams having chances but neither team stamping some real authority. Steve Cowles thought otherwise around the 65 minute mark when his calm strike put Garnett back on level terms. Barca-Law-Na now were feeling the pressure and through Chris Normington Garnett took the lead showing great will power after being 3:1 down. Garnett held well, but in the final five minutes the team lost concentration again on a set piece and were punished providing The Law team with a draw and shared points.

The team were disappointed after looking to win, however being 3:1 down at half time and turning the game on its head after an impressive second half the manager was pleased to pick up the first point of the season and the team showing a possible uplift in form.
