GARNETT WED A TEAM
Wed 22nd March 2006 Garnett A 9 (4) vs. (0) 1 Henderson A

Today saw the penultimate game of the season. Garnett A against the already relegated Henderson A. As one would expect with position of both teams in the league the A's dominated the game and ran out easy winners against a clearly confidence lacking Henderson. Goals flowed a plenty as the A's put their opponents to the sword. Allen opened the scoring when Tomei beat his man with a deft flick which found Allen in the box with space and he drilled his shot. The ball went in via the goalie and a defender which meant the dubious goals panel had to look at it but thankfully it was awarded to Garnett's defensive colossus. The second soon followed when an unmarked Mullan found space in the box. As he headed across goal Emmot pounced to claim Garnett's second.

The A's looked comfortable and the third came when speedster Emmot lef the defence trailing in his wake. He layed off and Heslop was left with a simple tap in.

The A's got their fourth when Mullan broke free and drilled a well executed strike hard and low into the bottom corner just before half time.

The second half was a similar story. The fifth arrived when a Jackson shot deflected off Emmot and fell to Mullan who score his second of the game with a tidy finish.

Substitute Thorp then scored his third goal in as many appearances when he broke free down the right and picked his spot in the bottom corner with an isolated keeper exposed again by a poor defence.

Garnett continued to press forward knowing more goals would help a goal difference that could till prove pivotal. With this in mind Mills stepped up. He again broke free down the right hand side. The no nonsense right back then lashed a strike into the top corner to grab the A's seventh.

Henderson managed to pull one back when one time Garnett player (one match in total) Ross Knight slotted past Harty from inside the box.

There was still time for more goals and Andy 'Rooney' Smith decided it was time to cross the half way line. His run took him to edge of the Henderson box before the proverbial blood dripping from his nose became to much and he was challenged by a defender. The only time a Henderson player actually got a challenge in.

The eighth arrived when for the second week running Tomei launched a rocket. This time from the edge of the right hand side of the box. The ball sailed into the far left hand corner.

Finally the final goal came when a Jackson corner fell to an unmarked Allen who converted with a tap in to score his second and the A's NINTH!!!

A good day for the A's who are now one point from championship glory.
