Profile: Only the third player after Danny Sherwood and Martin Pollard to reach 300 appearances in the modern era, Merc is the ultimate club man. Totally committed on and off the pitch, Merc always puts in a passionate performance whatever team he is selected for and has always been a great clubman whether doing administrative duties or work at the ground. In his younger days was an all action central midfield ball winner but has matured into a utility player who will fill in a variety of positions. Famous for his slide tackles and all time penalty kick conceder.
Manager's comments (2009-10): “Been a great addition to our squad this year. One of those players who doesn’t have an out and out best position. He will do a cracking job wherever you put him – even in goal. Also has a lot of experience having spent so long in the 1st team. A great clubman to go with his on the field attributes. Having said that not been able to look at him in the same light, after seeing him dressed so comfortably as Wonder Woman on his stag do.”
